KMWO recently organized a powerful climate strike in collaboration with the elders of the Garo Indigenous community in Mymensingh district. This event brought attention to the pressing environmental challenges faced by Indigenous communities, particularly the dual issues of water scarcity and the need for sustainable housing. The Garo community, like many Indigenous groups, has long relied on a deep connection with nature, yet climate change and environmental degradation threaten their way of life, making access to clean water and eco-friendly homes more difficult.

The strike was not only a demonstration of the Garo community’s resilience but also a call to action for greater support and advocacy. By standing alongside the elders, KMWO aimed to amplify their voices, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and policies that prioritize both environmental protection and the well-being of marginalized communities. The elders shared their experiences of coping with the impacts of climate change, urging the public and policymakers to address these issues with urgency and fairness.

KMWO’s climate strike highlighted the importance of equitable access to resources, calling for a future where all communities have the right to clean water and sustainable living conditions. Through collective efforts, we can honor the knowledge and resilience of Indigenous communities like the Garo by advocating for eco-friendly solutions that benefit both people and the planet. Together, we can strive for a more just and sustainable future for all.
