Our Executive Director, Ms. Ananya Drong, had the esteemed privilege of participating in the CSW68 Asia Pacific Regional Consultation held in Bangkok, Thailand, from February 6th to 7th, 2024. Representing Ku.Sal Marginalized Women Organization (KMWO) and the broader Indigenous women’s rights movement in Bangladesh, Ms. Ananya’s presence at this influential event marks a significant achievement for our organization. We are immensely proud of her for bringing the voices and concerns of marginalized women from Bangladesh to an international platform of this magnitude.

The consultation brought together over 40 representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs) across the Asia Pacific region. During the CSO Forum, participants from 22 different countries collaborated to critically analyze pressing issues related to poverty, institutional barriers, and inadequate financing that hinder progress toward gender equality. The forum fostered a space for collective strategy-building to ensure that advocacy efforts at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) were both comprehensive and impactful.

At the Regional Consultation, CSOs delivered a powerful joint statement addressing critical concerns such as the erosion of women’s rights, the alarming rise in gender-based violence, and the exacerbation of these issues by the ongoing climate crisis. The joint statement called for urgent and coordinated global action to advance gender equality and protect women’s rights. In collaboration with member states, UN agencies, and other CSOs, these efforts contributed to the broader discussions that will shape the Agreed Conclusions at CSW68, influencing global policy and the path forward for gender equality in the region.

Ms. Ananya’s participation exemplifies KMWO’s commitment to engaging in high-level advocacy and our continued dedication to amplifying the voices of Indigenous women on the global stage.
